Ryan Newman – Fast Man of Philanthropy

The Trades has a great interview with Ryan Newman about the Ryan Newman Foundation. Here’s an excerpt: Ryan Newman knows how to go fast. He cemented his name among NASCAR’s all-time greats earlier this year when he won the sport’s most prestigious event, the Daytona 500. On Dec. 13, he’ll slow down for at least a day to host his foundation’s annual fishing tournament on Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC. “I think we had 138 boats last year, which is pretty big for a fishing tournament,” he tells me. To complement the tournament, Newman’s foundation will hold a charity auction and gala on the evening of Dec. 12. Fellow drivers Tony Stewart, Martin Truex, Jr. and Regan Smith are among the famous attendees who will join Newman at the event. “The dinner … Read entire article »

Helmet with Tony Stewart Autograph in Charity Auction

GRANDVIEW, Mo. – Maureen MacDonald of Raleigh, N.C. was recently crowned Mrs. America 2009, and is putting that title to use in raising donations for the Prevent Child Abuse America charitable organization. In October, Mrs. MacDonald was given exclusive access by Speedway Children’s Charities to the NASCAR drivers meeting at the Bank of America 500, held at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. She took with her a plain white helmet and a Sharpie marker, and was able to obtain the signatures of 42 NASCAR drivers and personalities. The now-covered helmet is being sold to the highest bidder via an online auction at GoMotorBids, with all net proceeds benefiting the Prevent Child Abuse America cause. “Mrs. MacDonald was able to get an impressive list of autographs,” said Russ Dickey, marketing director … Read entire article »

Is Martin Truex Jr. Moving to Stewart-Haas Racing?

Dave Moody over at Sirius Speedway is reporting that Martin Truex and Bass Pro Shops still may not be at DEI/Ganassi Racing next year. In a nutshell, both contracts (Martin and Bass Pro Shops) require that he have at least 2 Full-Time teammates. That’s part of the reason that DEI merged with Ganassi. The only teammate he had left at DEI was Aric Almirola and the unsponsored #8 car. I’m speculating but I’m guessing by Full-Time the lawyers mean Fully Sponsored. With DEI and Ganassi merging, Martin now has the Partially Sponsored @42 (Juan Pablo), the #41 with Target sponsorship, and the unsponsored Almirola. Still short of 2 Full-Time teammates. So what happens to the pair should Martin get his wish to be out of DEI? I predicted a … Read entire article »

The Stewie Awards..An Inside View

Kim Roberson over at Insider Racing News has written about her experience at Thursdays Stewie Awards, and the possibility of it being the final Tony Stewart Live broadcast. Well, the NASCAR season is now officially over. Jimmie has his third trophy, Cale Yarborough surprised everyone by presenting him with his championship ring, and now we can declare the 2008 season over. As I mentioned last week, I spent the day Thursday in New York City. I was invited to attend the second annual Stewie Awards on “Tony Stewart Live” at Sirius-XM headquarters, and who can pass up an invitation like that? So my sister and I decided to plan an extended layover in the Big Apple en-route to a vacation in Las Vegas, and off to the Stewies we went. I was lucky … Read entire article »
