Despite Bristol’s reputation of being a crapshoot and a treacherous racetrack where anything can happen, Newman and his team looked forward to racing on the concrete oval nestled in the East Tennessee mountains. Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet Impala, led the two-car Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) contingent in time trials at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway by qualifying fourth for Saturday’s Irwin Tools Night Race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. Stewart turned a lap of 15.653 seconds at 122.584 mph on the .533-mile oval.
Bristol – Tony Stewart met with members of the media at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon to talk about racing at Bristol, the problem of finding sponsorship in the current economic climate and his thoughts on last weekends dust-up between Ryan Newman and Joey Logano at Michigan International Speedway.
