ATLANTA – Sporting a paint scheme that will pay tribute to the U.S. Army Reserve, NASCAR driver Ryan Newman and the No. 39 Stewart-Haas Racing team are looking to draw upon their own reserve heading into Sunday night’s Emory Healthcare 500 Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Newman, who is in position to set a career-pole record at the 1.54-mile oval, also finds himself in a precarious spot with two races remaining before the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship begins. He currently sits 15th in the driver standings, 118 points from the final Chase position of 12th.

Ryan Newman and his No. 39 WIX Filters Chevrolet team enjoyed a solid outing at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway by earning a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s Irwin Tools Night Race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. It was Newman’s seventh top-10 finish of the 2010 season and his 10th top-10 in 18 career Sprint Cup starts at the .533-mile bullring.
Despite Bristol’s reputation of being a crapshoot and a treacherous racetrack where anything can happen, Newman and his team looked forward to racing on the concrete oval nestled in the East Tennessee mountains. After all, Bristol played to the team’s strong suit — its short track program. And once again, Newman and his No. 39 Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) team left Bristol with a top-10 effort.

Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet Impala, led the two-car Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) contingent in time trials at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway by qualifying fourth for Saturday’s Irwin Tools Night Race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. Stewart turned a lap of 15.653 seconds at 122.584 mph on the .533-mile oval.
