Goodyear Gets Back at Stewart

Tony Stewart didn’t have a lot of good to say about Goodyear last year.  It looks like he’ll have even less good to say this year after tire problems destroyed both Stewart-Haas cars in todays final practice for the Daytona 500.

About 20 minutes into the practice Ryan Newman was going through 1 and 2 with Tony close behind.  As has happened so many times in the past, Newman’s right rear tire blew out.  As he spun out, he collected his teammate.  Both drivers will have to go a backup car and start Sundays race at the back of the field.

“Just a Goodyear right rear tire,” Stewart said. “Same thing everybody’s been talking about all week. Same stuff we always talk about every year, the failures that Goodyear has. I think that’s part of their marketing campaign, the more we talk about it the more press they get. I think they forget that it’s supposed to be in a good way not a bad way.”

Newman will be going to another backup for the 500.  “This one is junk,” said Newman, the defending 500 champion. “The right rear tire exploded in the middle of [turns] 1 and 2. It gave me 100 yards of sign that it might. It started with the very very slightest vibration. I was getting ready to come in and it was too late. It’s unfortunate I took out my teammate. . . . Just disappointed in the situation Goodyear has put us in.”

Way to go Tony!!!! Keep complaining about those tires. Hoosier did do a better job. But!!!!!!! Goodyear had more money. No compution.

  2. Tony O'Donnell says:

To bad “Hoosier” made tires aren’t available to you or Michellin, Firestone…you know what we mean.
    > How do I enter to win today’s racing suit???

  3. Tom Anderson says:

If everyone would cowboy up and bitch together maybe they ( nascar) will listen, but Tony can’t do it alone…. Go get’em SMOKE.!.!

  4. Brian D says:

Good job Tony !!! those Goodyears or should i say Badyear tires are junk . I do wish they would bring Hoosier tires back.GOOD LUCK Tony.

  5. Tom Anderson says:

Nascar does so much to keep the car manufactures happy and in compition, why won’t they let the tire companys do the same. They have a manufactures title , why not a most winning tire tiltle. Bring in hoosier, firestone,bf goodrich, goodyear who ever and let team owners decide what they want to run. Makes for better tires for all of us when there is compition.
    P.S. tony will win Daytona
    Go get’em SMOKE

  6. Dave Fleuret says:

The dollars will winout MOST of the time.
It is time for NASCAR to get off their collective duff’s and get Hoosier back into the game. Competition is a GOOD THING!

    Smoke ‘em up Tony!

  7. John Owlett says:

Good idea for tire competition. Remember the old days of NASCAR – “you run what you brung”. I say let them bring their own tires. Who knows, that might be the competitive edge that some teams need. Teams show up with their own tires. They’ll be the ones who eventually weed out the tires they do not want to run. You might even find some more sponser dollars out there for some of the teams who choose to use that manufactures tires. Why not? Then you’ll see some real advancement in tire development. They use Firestones in Indy cars and Formula 1 racing. Not to mention NHRA. They seem to hold up at speeds over 200 mph.

way to go smoke it should be the owner what kind of tire what he wants to race on after he is paying for the dam tire bill he should have say so but not when you have goodyear haveing control over the dam tires hell did anybody notice it but tony and ryan they were the only chevys haveing the tire proyblms out there tony should jest show up sun with hooiser tires sun on his car and ryans car and go out there and show goodyear that some other tire maker can win the dam race with somebody eles tires besides goodyear then that will send a message to goodyear what a way that would be tony getting back at good year to show up in victorylane hooiser tires race winning tires not goodyear go smokem up tony
