Tony Gibson Bringing #8 Crew to Stewart-Haas Racing?

On Wednesday I mentioned the rumor that Tony Gibson of DEI was rumored to be Ryan Newman’s crew chief next year at Stewart-Haas Racing. This afternoon on SPEED, it was mentioned that Gibson has had several meetings with the team and it looks like he may be bringing the ENTIRE #8 crew with him.

If that happens, DEI will be left with a car (the #8), a driver (Aric Almirola), NO sponsor (the ARMY has already announced they are going to the 39), NO crew chief and NO crew. I hate to say it but DEI is looking more and more like that museum Tony predicted it would be if Jr. left.

And who is making it that way……Tony. The #8 will have a crew Chief and a team. The 15 CC and team will just move over. Just wait and see…you may be in for a shock. Go DEI.

I agree, the 15 team will take over the 8 IF it happens. That’s a pretty big if though.

Not sure why you think I would be in for a shock. People move around all the time. It just looks to me like a lot of people may be moving on from DEI.

But why are SOMe people moving on from DEI. The #8 team is leaving becouse of the DEI - Ganassi rumor. IF they merge their won’t be a #8 team.

DEI is failing in more ways than one. The truth is, Theresa messed up letting Dale go. And just look at the guy, anyone can see he’s not happy at Hendrick. The other reason is that not only is DEI losing the 8 team and sponsor to SHR, but Paul Menard and the Menards contract are going to RYR in 2009. Thats a $15 million deal they are losing. DEI screwed its ownself. I hate to see it happening to the late Sr’s legacy, but Theresa made some poor choices. My full support go to SHR and the 14, 39 teams and drivers for 2009! I’m a Smoke fan for life and I love that he is making this choice!

Dale Jr is happy at Hendrick and he is in way better equipment than he could ever have been in at DEI. And for Tony and Ryan, I expect them to make the Chase and each have at least one win. THey will do well because I think they still have an alliance and will get Hendrick engines which will be awsome to see how much better Tony and Ryan will do in such awsome equipment. Can’t wait till season starts at Daytona!
