Newman Gets First Modified Win

Last year Ryan Newman hopped into a Whelen Modified for the first time and nearly won the race. While he didn’t win, he did fall in love with with the Modifieds. So much so that he announced this morning that he was going to be running at least 3 Whelen Modified Tour races this year. Ryan will be running two races at New Hampshire International and one at Bristol.

This evening at New Smyrna Speedway, Ryan hopped back into the modified of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing crew chief Kevin Manion, the same car he drove in New Hampshire. Proving he is a quick learner, Newman took the lead on lap 15, lost it on a restart and then took it back on lap 22. Holding off Ted Christopher, the man who beat him in New Hampshire, over the last 3 laps, Newman won the first modified race of his career.
