Stewart Needs to Talk with Newman

Tony Stewart needs to have a talk with Ryan Newman.  Better yet, Stewart’s crew chief Darrian Grubb needs to talk to Newman’s crew chief Tony Gibson.  In todays final practice before the Food City 500 Newman ran a lap of 15.569, 123.245 mph, putting him at #2 for the practice, just .016 behind Denny Hamlin.  Stewart, on the other hand, turned in a 15.905, 120.641 mph.  That put him 34th on the speed chart.

While I realize that no two drivers like their cars set up the same, it’s apparent that the 14 team are missing something.  I’m sure that even as I write this the crew chiefs are comparing notes and discussing changes, it still worries me that Tony is that much slower.

Yes, John, but shouldn’t both should be sharing? Tony has been very good in the first two races, but has slipped a bit lately. I don’t want Tony to be a robot, but he could do better on his pit stops.

Hi Gwyn, first off thanks for reading and writing.

I agree, they both need to be sharing, and I’m sure they are. My somewhat tongue in cheek statement was because for the last couple weeks people been complaining because Ryan wasn’t getting the same results as Tony, inferring lesser equipment and that the 14 team wasn’t telling the 39 team what they were doing to be successful.

I don’t think you ever have to worry about Tony being a robot. He’s to independent/emotional/free-spirited for that to happen.

I agree that if this Stewart Hass team is going to have success they need to communicate. Both drivers are dealing with new pit crews and crew chiefs, it’s not easy, it will take a little time. I think if the #39 pit crew keeps working hard and they work as a team it will pay off. I am tired of the media comments that Newman is a talented driver, well if he wasn’t talented Stewart wouldn’t have hired him and everyone should watch out because the 39 & 14 teams will be a group to reckon with by Chase time.

LOL John re robot. I know he won’t be a robot (he’s too ornery) but did you hear his scanner yesterday? He was trying to get help from HMSers. I am not fond of team-racing. Sorry, but that bothers me as I am ornery too.
