Stewart-Haas Racing: Auto Club 400 Race Report

Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 39 U.S. Army Partners for Youth Success (PaYS) Chevrolet Impala, led the two-car Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) contingent at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., by finishing fifth in Sunday’s Auto Club 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Newman led once for eight laps en route to his third top-five finish of the season and his fourth top-five in 17 career Sprint Cup starts at Fontana. Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Impala for SHR, finished 13th. Stewart ran among the top-five for much of the event and led four times for 11 laps, but faded in the final 15 circuits around the 2-mile oval with an ill-handling racecar. Kevin Harvick won the Auto Club 400 to score his 15th career … Read entire article »

Full Transcript: ON PRACTICE “We just went in qualifying trim. We actually lost the first five minutes switching over because we were set-up for race trim. So we just switched over and made three runs.” IS THAT WHAT EVERYBODY WORKED ON TODAY? “I think Darian said there was only one car that he saw that was making more than one lap at a time. And they probably did that for one run and then switched over. After leading three times for 27 laps – all in the last 51 tours around the track’s 2-mile layout – he became the 13th different Sprint Cup winner at Fontana when he captured his 39th career Sprint Cup victory. Ten races have passed since that triumph, and Stewart is hungry for victory. And since he’s been close enough to taste victory three times in the season’s first four races, the driver of the No. 14 Office … Read entire article »

Newman Off to Best Start Ever as Stewart-Haas Driver

FONTANA, Calif. – Ryan Newman is enjoying his best start to a season since joining the Stewart-Haas Racing team in 2009. After four NASCAR Sprint Cup races, the driver of the No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet has three top 10s and a average finish of 10.5. Had it not been for a late-race wreck in the Daytona 500, Newman’s average finish would easily be in the single digits. The average finish of 10.5 is miles ahead of where he was at the same time during the past two seasons. When he made the Chase in 2009, Newman’s average finish after four races was 27.75. Last year when he came up short of making the Chase, his average finish was 26.25 after four events. Newman has also led 70 laps in the first four … Read entire article »
