Newman Wants to Reel in the Big Prize
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – While on the surface the similarities between Ryan Newman’s two loves – fishing and racing – may seem few and far between, it’s easier in his mind to draw comparisons than one would think. For Newman, fishing is about being one with nature. It’s just a man and his fishing rod. There’s nothing that he enjoys more than the monotonous routine of casting his line, waiting for a bite, reeling it in and … Read entire article »

Newman Scores 10th-Place Finish at Tennessee Short Track
For Ryan Newman and the No. 39 Tornados team, the short tracks of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series have been a strong suit over the past two seasons as they have consistently posted solid performances on tracks less than a mile in length. Sunday afternoon’s Jeff Byrd 500 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway was no exception for Newman as he earned a 10th-place finish. It was Newman and the No. 39 Tornados team’s third consecutive top-10 finish of the 2011 season and the No. 39 team’s fourth top-10 in five starts at the Bristol bullring. “I think our Tornados Chevrolet was probably better than where we finished today,” said Newman, who earned his 11th top-10 in 19 starts at Bristol. “We fought getting loose during the course of a run almost all … Read entire article »

Stewart’s Tight Car Leads to Top-20 at Bristol
After three strong outings in the season’s first three races, Tony Stewart and the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 team of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) had high expectations heading to the high-banked, half-mile oval that is Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. But those expectations were brought back down to Earth when Stewart finished 19th in Sunday’s Jeff Byrd 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. “We just never really got the handling right during the race,” said Stewart, who managed to set quick time in practice on Saturday. “We felt good going into the race, and even though the car didn’t feel great at the start – like it was up on top of the racetrack – we were decent enough to run in the top-10. “But it took awhile for the car to balance … Read entire article »

That’s two big keys to being good here for Sunday.” ON THE POINT SYSTEM “I don’t know if I even really know what to expect, still. So, I’m not sure we’re really focused on it as much as the media is. But we’re just trying to go out and we still know that if we win the race, we get the most points. … Read entire article »
