Late-Race Spin Costs Newman Potential Top-10
Ryan Newman saw the possibility of a top-10 finish disappear in a cloud of smoke after a late-race spin caused him to finish a disappointing 23rd in Sunday’s CARFAX 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Newman, driver of the No. 39 Tornados Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), was in 14th and battling for position with Joey Logano on lap 148 of the 200-lap event when Logano’s car got loose in turn three and the right front of his No. 20 Toyota made contact with the left-rear of Newman’s machine. … Read entire article »

Another Race, Another Top-10 for Stewart
A win is just around the corner for Tony Stewart, and proof can be found in Sunday’s CARFAX 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Stewart started fourth – his best starting spot at Michigan since he qualified third for the track’s 2005 June race – before leading three times for 36 laps. The driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet Impala for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) appeared ready to notch his first victory of 2010 and the 38th of his Sprint Cup career until a caution for debris came out with a little more than 30 laps remaining in the 200-lap race. It ultimately spoiled Stewart’s potential victory run and left him with a disappointing but respectable sixth-place finish – his 10th top-10 result … Read entire article »

It’s Onward and Upward for Stewart
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – When the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series last visited Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn in June, Tony Stewart was coming off a third-place finish at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway and hoping that his first top-five result since coming home second at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in March was a sign that his season was finally trending upward. Stewart was 13th in the championship standings, one point outside the top-12 and acutely aware that his third-place run from the week before would be viewed as a fluke if he couldn’t back it up with another solid run at Michigan, for with the exception of a ninth-place finish in early June at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, Stewart hadn’t finished better than 15th since that second-place effort at Bristol. … Read entire article »
