Tony Stewart Gets “Wild” at Oakland Zoo
SONOMA, Calif. – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Tony Stewart traded his race suit for a zoo-keeper’s uniform during a behind-the-scenes experience at the Oakland Zoo on Thursday. Stewart, who was in the Bay Area in advance of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway (June 24-26), had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get up-close and personal with Osh, an 11,000 pound, 16-year-old male elephant. Working alongside Elephant Manager Jeff Kinzley, Stewart helped complete some of the daily care for Osh, including a “pedicure,” mouth check and feeding him lunch. Osh even kicked off the countdown to race weekend by passing Stewart the official green flag. “That’s a pretty incredible animal, and this is like nothing I’ve ever done,” said the driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet … Read entire article »

Newman and the U.S. Army Team Ready to Take On The Glen
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – When it comes to Watkins Glen International, Ryan Newman has a fondness for the 2.45-mile, 11-turn road course. He is not fazed at all by the delicate left and right-hand turns, the back straightaway “bus stop” chicane or even the stock car oddity of right-side entrance pit stops. “Watkins Glen is a unique venue and a fun place to compete,” said Newman, driver of the No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet. “I really like the layout because you can attack the course. You can pass at the Glen and all of us drivers like a facility where you can pass. Our other road course track — Infineon Raceway — is more of a technical and finesse circuit.” … Read entire article »

Newman Puts Forth Gutsy Effort at Sonoma
Ryan Newman picked up 10 spots in the final 15 laps of Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350k NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., to finish 16th. For the driver of the No. 39 Haas Automation Chevrolet of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the story of the day boiled down to two things – tires and track position. “Fresh tires were huge today,” said Newman, who qualified 13th for the 110-lap race around the 10-turn, 1.99-mile road course. “After a few laps, the tires started falling off (time-wise) and my car just started sliding around the racetrack. With older tires, it was just really hard to get through traffic, especially since there are only a few good spots to pass on the racetrack. Our Haas Automation Chevy was pretty good … Read entire article »
