Newman Wants to Reel in the Big Prize

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – While on the surface the similarities between Ryan Newman’s two loves – fishing and racing – may seem few and far between, it’s easier in his mind to draw comparisons than one would think. For Newman, fishing is about being one with nature. It’s just a man and his fishing rod. There’s nothing that he enjoys more than the monotonous routine of casting his line, waiting for a bite, reeling it in and … Read entire article »

Newman Finishes Sixth in Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol

Ryan Newman and his No. 39 WIX Filters Chevrolet team enjoyed a solid outing at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway by earning a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s Irwin Tools Night Race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. It was Newman’s seventh top-10 finish of the 2010 season and his 10th top-10 in 18 career Sprint Cup starts at the .533-mile bullring. Despite Bristol’s reputation of being a crapshoot and a treacherous racetrack where anything can happen, Newman and his team looked forward to racing on the concrete oval nestled in the East Tennessee mountains. After all, Bristol played to the team’s strong suit — its short track program. And once again, Newman and his No. 39 Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) team left Bristol with a top-10 effort. … Read entire article »

Getting to the Point at Bristol

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – While not quite locked into the Chase for the Championship, Tony Stewart appears poised to join the elite Chase field for the sixth time since the 10-race Chase became reality in 2004. The driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet Impala for Stewart-Haas Racing is fourth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship standings with a 300-point buffer over 13th-place Mark Martin, the first driver on the outside looking in at the 12-driver Chase, which will be decided in the next three races. With a maximum of 161 points that could be lost in a single race, it would take a catastrophe for Stewart to topple out of the top-12 when the Chase field is set following the conclusion of the Sept. 11 race at Richmond … Read entire article »
