Kansas Not Kind to Newman

Ryan Newman struggled with an ill-handling car and finished a disappointing 18th in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City. From the drop of the green flag, Newman and crew chief Tony Gibson battled to fix the balance of the No. 39 Haas Automation Chevrolet fielded by Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR). Throughout the three-hour race, Gibson threw wedge, tire-pressure and track-bar adjustments at the Chevrolet in hopes of correcting the … Read entire article »

No Hollywood Ending for Stewart in Kansas

No Hollywood Ending for Stewart in Kansas

Tony Stewart may not have had the winning car in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, but he appeared to have the second-best car. Appearances crashed headlong into reality, however, when a series of late-race issues conspired to leave Stewart a disappointing 15th. From lap 107 to lap 225, and then again from lap 229 to lap 241, Stewart ran second to eventual race-winner Jimmie Johnson. Making … Read entire article »

Newman Salvages Top-15 Finish at Kansas, Retains 10th in Points

Despite never quite getting a handle on his No. 39 Haas Automation Chevrolet in Sunday’s STP 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Ryan Newman and his Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) team never gave up and managed to salvage a top-15 finish. It was Newman’s seventh top-15 of the 2011 season. Pit strategy late in the race afforded the No. 39 team the ability to stay out and not pit for fuel in the closing laps as many of the leaders had to do. Thanks to the pit call, Newman was able to gain several spots in the running order as other teams were forced to pit or face running out of fuel. He finished 15th. “It was a disappointing day for all of us,” Newman said. “We … Read entire article »

On Sunday at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Tony Stewart experienced what millions of Americans have already experienced this year – pain at the pump. The driver of the No. 14 THE GLADES/Office Depot Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) led twice for 20 laps in the STP 400 and was in contention to win his 40th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and third at Kansas before a late-race pit stop for fuel jettisoned him to an eighth-place finish. “We didn’t get all the fuel in it to make it to the end,” said Stewart after recording his eighth top-10 finish in 11 career Sprint Cup starts at Kansas. “We had a problem getting the fuel in and we didn’t get it full at that second to last stop, so we had … Read entire article »
