Newman led twice for seven laps en route to his sixth top-five finish in 18 career Sprint Cup starts at the 1-mile oval and his first top-five finish this season. Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Impala for SHR, led four times for 59 laps and finished seventh. It was his 10th top-10 finish in 19 career Sprint Cup starts at Phoenix and his first top-10 finish of 2011. Ryan Newman Scores a Top-Five Finish for Dollar General and Turner Motorsports
AVONDALE, Ariz. – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star, Ryan Newman, returned to the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) this weekend with Turner Motorsports and Dollar General Racing. As defending winner of Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series event, Newman and his No. 30 team had high hopes for the weekend and they were not disappointed. Sporting a reverse black and yellow Dollar General paint scheme, he powered his No. 30 Impala to a fourth-place finish after 200 blistering fast laps. With cloudy skies overhead, Newman hit the track 24th in Saturday morning’s qualifying session, laying down a lap good enough to place him sixth in line to start the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 later that day. Stewart and Phoenix Go Back A Long Way
By Jim Pedley Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service It’s pretty safe to say that few drivers enjoy racing at Phoenix International Raceway more than Tony Stewart. It’s even safer to say that there are not many drivers who have taken as many laps as Stewart at the dusty, quirky, desert track. And it is super safe to say that no driver wants to win Sunday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 more than Stewart, because for all his love and longevity at PIR, he has not won a Sprint Cup race there since his first Sprint Cup race there. To some, Stewart is the face of PIR. A short-track legend out of Columbus, Ind., Stewart has raced—and raced well—about every kind of car imaginable at the 1-mile Phoenix … Read entire article »

Stewart Looking Forward to a Return to Normalcy at Phoenix
KANNAPOLIS, N.C., – From the hallowed grounds of Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway to the foot of Monument Hill, which way back in 1864 was the geographical starting point for what became the State of Arizona in 1912, Tony Stewart and his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series brethren are oh-so-ready to settle into a bit of racing normalcy. The season-opening Speedweeks at Daytona may offer stock car’s ultimate prize in the form of the Daytona 500’s Harley J. Earl Trophy, but it’s also nine solid days and nights of full-throttle activity on and off the racetrack that makes three-day events such as this weekend’s Subway Fresh Fit 500k at Phoenix International Raceway a breath of fresh air. For Stewart, driver of the No. 14 … Read entire article »
