Newman Solid in Army Birthday Car; Finishes 6th in Michigan
BROOKLYN, Mich. – The numbers were all good for Ryan Newman following Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Driving the No. 39 U.S. Army 236th Birthday Chevrolet honoring NASCAR Hall of Famer Bud Moore, Newman brought home a sixth-place finish at the two-mile oval. It was his second straight top-10 and seventh of the season. But more inspiring for Newman, who calls MIS his home track, is that he snapped a top-10 jinx at the two-mile oval. Before Sunday’s sixth-place finish, he had a streak of 13 straight races at MIS without a top-10. His last top-10s at MIS were back-to-back victories in August 2003 and June 2004. “It wasn’t a perfect day, but not a bad one either,” said Newman, a native of South Bend, Ind. “It … Read entire article »

‘Dega Delivers Top-20 as Stewart Gets Shuffled Out of Top-10 in Waning Laps
Tony Stewart emerged from Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway with an undamaged racecar and a 17th-place finish. Typically, a result like that would leave Stewart stewing, but at Talladega, where racing is a crapshoot and a driver’s result is dependent upon help from other drivers, the bar is set low. While no one was high-fiving the top-20 effort, crew members clad in Office Depot/Mobil 1 uniforms were happy to load a straight racecar into the team transporter, something that couldn’t be said for many of their counterparts. Certainly, a better result was the aim, and Stewart’s No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Impala was poised for at least a top-10 finish before race-long drafting partner David Gilliland had to let off the gas ever so … Read entire article »

Newman’s Solid Martinsville Run Spoiled by Misfortunes
For the first 327 laps of Sunday’s Goody’s Fast Relief 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Ryan Newman and his No. 39 Haas Automation team looked to be a sure bet for another top-10 finish, or even a contender for the win. Newman led laps and ran solidly in the top-10 for most of the afternoon. Newman’s good fortunes came undone on lap 328, however, thanks to a broken header pipe that sapped his car’s horsepower for the rest of the race, and a flat left-rear tire that sent him for a spin off turn three a little later in the race. Those events conspired to put Newman two laps down and relegated him to a 20th-place finish at the .526-mile paperclip-shaped oval. “Our Haas Automation Chevy was … Read entire article »

Stewart-Haas Racing: Auto Club 400 Race Report
Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 39 U.S. Army Partners for Youth Success (PaYS) Chevrolet Impala, led the two-car Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) contingent at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., by finishing fifth in Sunday’s Auto Club 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Newman led once for eight laps en route to his third top-five finish of the season and his fourth top-five in 17 career Sprint Cup starts at Fontana. Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Impala for SHR, finished 13th. Stewart ran among the top-five for much of the event and led four times for 11 laps, but faded in the final 15 circuits around the 2-mile oval with an ill-handling racecar. Kevin Harvick won the Auto Club 400 to score his 15th career … Read entire article »
