Stewart-Haas Racing: Samsung Mobile 500 Qualifying

Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 39 U.S. Army Reserve Chevrolet Impala, led the two-car Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) contingent in time trials at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth by qualifying 16th for Saturday night’s Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Newman turned a lap of 28.870 seconds at 187.045 mph on the 1.5-mile oval. “We picked up the pace from practice, but were hoping for a better starting position,” said Newman, who won at Texas in March 2003. “We had two good days of practicing in our U.S. Army Reserve Chevrolet and feel that we should be in good shape in race trim. The big question still remains about what it’s going to be like transitioning from day to night in tomorrow’s under-the-lights race. We haven’t practiced at … Read entire article »

FORT WORTH, Texas – Ryan Newman’s No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet will pay tribute to the men and women of the Army Reserve in the Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race Saturday, at Texas Motor Speedway. The paint scheme on the hood and rear-quarter panel of Newman’s car will showcase Army Reserve. Since the U.S. Army Reserves was founded in 1908, Reserve Soldiers have received the same training as active-duty Soldiers and have had the opportunity to serve near home until they are needed to deploy. Tony Stewart Messin’ with Texas

KANNAPOLIS, N.C.– Despite the warning carried on bumper stickers slapped on the backs of countless pickup trucks and cars throughout the state of Texas, Tony Stewart enjoys messin’ with Texas. In fact, the “Don’t Mess with Texas” mantra might as well be an invitation for the driver of the No. 14 Mobil 1/Office Depot Chevrolet Impala for Stewart-Haas Racing. Stewart has been messing around in Texas for nearly two decades, first harassing drivers in the IZOD IndyCar Series and now drivers in the elite NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. It all began in November 1995 when Stewart was tabbed to pilot A.J. Foyt’s Indy car for a commercial shoot at Texas World Speedway in College Station. And while those laps were a … Read entire article »

Former Texas Winner Newman Back to Enjoying Intermediate Tracks

FORT WORTH, Texas – Coming to a 1.5-mile track wasn’t always a pleasant thought for Ryan Newman. But based on his recent success at the intermediate tracks, Newman along with the entire No. 39 U.S. Army team are feeling confident about Saturday night’s Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway. The reason for the change of attitude about the intermediate tracks is the fifth-place finishes Newman has claimed this season at Las Vegas (1.5-mile) and Fontana, Calif. (2-mile). “We’re off to a strong start and if we’re going to continue to have success we need to do well at the intermediate tracks like Texas,” explained Newman. “In the past, the mile-and-a-half and two-mile tracks gave us problems, but so far this season we have had good results at those … Read entire article »

Late Accident Ruins Stewart’s Promising Day

A day that began with a lot of promise and a start from the pole ended with a wrecked Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet Impala and a disappointing 32nd-place finish for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) driver/owner Tony Stewart. The Columbus, Ind., native led five times for 74 laps in Monday’s rain-postponed Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, but Stewart’s 400th career Sprint Cup start ended badly when he was involved in a late-race multi-car accident that left him with his first DNF (Did Not Finish) of 2010. … Read entire article »

Newman, Army Team Rebound to Finish 11th in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas – Ryan Newman made one of his patented late-race charges to finish 11th in Monday’s rain-delayed Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.
