There’s Plenty of New and Exciting Things For Newman at Texas

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – If there was a theme for Ryan Newman heading into this week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, it very well could be summed up by the phrase “new and exciting.” Consider the news announced Nov. 1 that Quicken Loans Inc., the nation’s largest online retail mortgage lender, has formed a partnership with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team co-owned by two-time series champion … Read entire article »

Stewart Overcomes Numerous Obstacles to Finish 12th

Tony Stewart didn’t have the best car in Saturday night’s Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, but he and crew chief Darian Grubb made sure they gave themselves the best chance to win the 334-lap race around the 1.5-mile oval. It turned out not to be, as Stewart ran out of fuel on the final lap and finished 12th, but the duo sure made things interesting in the race’s last 100 laps. As crushing as the ending was, the fact that Stewart even got into a position to contend for the win was impressive. The driver of the No. 14 Mobil 1/Office Depot Chevrolet Impala for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) rallied from his 26th-place starting spot, a pit road collision on lap 11 and … Read entire article »

Newman Battles to 14th-Place Finish in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 9, 2011) — Handling and speed issues short circuited Ryan Newman’s performance Saturday night as the U.S. Army driver claimed a 14th-place finish in the Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway. “We knew we were behind the eight ball with speed and handling and never could find the right balance in our U.S. Army Reserve Chevrolet,” said team crew chief Tony Gibson. “I feel we got everything and more out of our car tonight. Some days it’s not going to be there and you just hope you can squeeze out every ounce of possible performance. That is exactly what Ryan did — an awesome job to finish a respectable 14th.” The finish dropped Newman one spot in the driver point standings — he … Read entire article »

Tony Stewart Texas Press Conference Transcript

TONY STEWART met with members of the media at Texas Motor Speedway and discussed the struggles at Martinsville, racing at Talladega and other topics.  Full transcript: ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT THE ISSUES THAT BOTH OF YOUR CARS HAD LAST WEEK?: “The gear issue that we had — we have to look in to.  That’s the first one we’ve lost this year, but we had a problem with Ryan’s (Newman) car last fall losing a gear.  We’re definitely looking into that.  The deal with the header and the wire — we haven’t had that issue, but at the same time we’ll still put just as much emphasis on looking into that as we do the gear side.  Neither one of those variables are … Read entire article »

Tony Stewart Messin’ with Texas

KANNAPOLIS, N.C.– Despite the warning carried on bumper stickers slapped on the backs of countless pickup trucks and cars throughout the state of Texas, Tony Stewart enjoys messin’ with Texas. In fact, the “Don’t Mess with Texas” mantra might as well be an invitation for the driver of the No. 14 Mobil 1/Office Depot Chevrolet Impala for Stewart-Haas Racing. Stewart has been messing around in Texas for nearly two decades, first harassing drivers in the IZOD IndyCar Series and now drivers in the elite NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. It all began in November 1995 when Stewart was tabbed to pilot A.J. Foyt’s Indy car for a commercial shoot at Texas World Speedway in College Station. And while those laps were a … Read entire article »

Former Texas Winner Newman Back to Enjoying Intermediate Tracks

FORT WORTH, Texas – Coming to a 1.5-mile track wasn’t always a pleasant thought for Ryan Newman. But based on his recent success at the intermediate tracks, Newman along with the entire No. 39 U.S. Army team are feeling confident about Saturday night’s Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway. The reason for the change of attitude about the intermediate tracks is the fifth-place finishes Newman has claimed this season at Las Vegas (1.5-mile) and Fontana, Calif. (2-mile). “We’re off to a strong start and if we’re going to continue to have success we need to do well at the intermediate tracks like Texas,” explained Newman. “In the past, the mile-and-a-half and two-mile tracks gave us problems, but so far this season we have had good results at those … Read entire article »
