Ryan Newman Eager for a Home Track Advantage, Boost at Chicagoland
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – There’s no place like home. And for Ryan Newman, this weekend’s LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., is as close as he gets to his hometown while traveling the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit. The 1.5-mile oval is just a little more than 100 miles from Newman’s hometown of South Bend, Ind., where the Purdue University graduate began driving in circles under his parents’ watchful eyes at the young age of 4. Although Chicagoland Speedway wasn’t added to the Sprint Cup circuit until 2001, Newman is familiar with the area surrounding the track as he has been racing throughout the region since he was a mere tyke, piloting everything from Quarter-Midgets to Midgets to Sprint cars. … Read entire article »

It’s Time for a Reversal of Fortune for Ryan Newman
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – To say that superspeedways have been unkind to Ryan Newman and his No. 39 Tornados Racing team is a gross understatement. In fact, it probably makes more sense to use the old song lyrics, “If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all,” when talking about Newman and his No. 39 team at both of the superspeedways on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit – Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Since joining the No. 39 Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) team at the start of the 2009 season, Newman has been the victim in a string of unfortunate wrecks of the “wrong-place/wrong-time” nature – in practice sessions and in races. In fact, in six point-paying and three non-point paying races at the two superspeedways as … Read entire article »

Newman Hopes to Create Another Magical Moment at ‘The Magic Mile’
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Over the course of his nine-year NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career, Ryan Newman has enjoyed some magical moments at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. After all, the 1.058-mile flat track commonly known as “The Magic Mile” was the site of Newman’s first point-paying Sprint Cup victory during his rookie season in 2002. On that September afternoon, the South Bend, Ind., native started from the pole and dominated the rain-shortened race, leading 143 of 207 laps. The win was proof that the young driver, who had climbed through the open-wheel ranks and was known for turning a quick lap in qualifying, had what it took to win in NASCAR’s elite series. The victory was emotional for Newman and his family, as all had worked and sacrificed for years … Read entire article »

Ryan Newman Honoring the Fathers
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Ryan Newman makes no bones about it. If it weren’t for his father, Greg Newman, he probably wouldn’t be racing today. The story goes that when Ryan was born in December 1977, his proud papa announced right then and there in the delivery room that Ryan would be a racecar driver. At the young age of 4, Ryan got his first racecar, a Quarter Midget, and began going in circles. Greg worked long hours … Read entire article »

Newman returns to the site of his first stock car win
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Perhaps you could say that Ryan Newman’s career has come full-triangle. Next month marks the 10-year anniversary of what could arguably be one of the biggest victories in his career. The win – Newman’s first-ever in a stock car – came at the 2.5-mile triangle-shaped Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, the site of this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500. … Read entire article »
