Tony Stewart wants Cup Series to race on Watkins Glen’s boot
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.—Before Tuesday’s ride swap with Lewis Hamilton, there was a section of the Watkins Glen International road course Stewart had never seen, the .95-mile boot-shaped section called—you guessed it—the “boot.” After racing on it in both a Sprint Cup and a Formula One car, Stewart would like to see NASCAR incorporate the boot into its August Cup race here. “I enjoyed the long course,” Stewart said. “I’d never been around it till today. Newman Finishes 12th in Watkins Glen; Gains in Points
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – U.S. Army crew chief Tony Gibson said it best following Ryan Newman’s 12th-place finish in Sunday’s Sprint Cup road race at Watkins Glen International. “Today was a huge points day- we’re back in the (Chase) hunt,” shouted Gibson on the team radio after Newman’s No. 39 Chevrolet took the checkered flag in the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen. Newman came into the race in 15th place and 138 points outside of the Chase. He is now in 14th place and 83 points from 12th, the final Chase position.
