Tony Stewart clinched the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in tonight’s Ford 400. Stewart and Kyle Busch finished the season tied for the lead (7-7) in the overall standings but Stewart wins the award based on his finishing position in the overall series championship standings. Stewart led tonight’s race twice for 43 laps and finished the season with a total of 414 laps led and held the top spot for at least one lap in 19 of the 36 races.
Stewart was credited with a 22nd-place finish at Homestead and finished the season sixth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship standings. He racked up four wins, 15 top-fives and 23 top-10 finishes.
Denny Hamlin led three times for 71 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in the Ford 400. Hamlin collected the honor for sixth time this season. He finished the 2009 season leading 22 times in 20 races for 1,380 laps and has now led 1,254 laps in 102 superspeedway races.
Hamlin won the Ford 400, crossing the finish line 2.632 seconds ahead of second-place Jeff Burton. The victory was Hamlin’s fourth victory and 15th top-five of the season and his eighth victory in 151 career starts.
