Why Tony Stewart Will Succeed Where Others Haven’t
Brian Polking over at the fantasy site RotoTimes.com has some interesting thoughts about why Tony Stewart will succeed as an owner/driver while Michael Waltrip and Robby Gordon have failed.
Here’s part of it:
Stewart is driving for his own team in 2009, but it is far from a mom and pop operation. His equipment will be on par with the top teams in NASCAR and won’t put him at a disadvantage. Stewart’s own ability will take care of the rest, and he can contend and win at any type of track. He has always been one of the most passionate and toughest competitors, and he now has the added motivation of proving to everyone that his team is a legitimate title contending organization.
He does some individual comparison of Waltrip/Stewart and Gordon/Stewart and explains why Tony has a huge advantage. Check it out:Hoosier Daddy?.

I too think Tony will do well for the 2009 season. I see him being very focused and ready to win. Let’s hope we get the Tony we all love back for 2009. He has the support of all his #20 fans – following him whatever he does. Go Tony!!!!!!
Smoke is the best and this is why he will succeed where others haven’t.
Smoke has the drive and ambition to prove to the race car community that he knows what he is doing. He made a great choice by asking Ryan Newman to be his teammate. Ryan also has the drive and ambition that will help motivate his new crew chief. He has a degree and knows how to work on the car himself. Smoke and the Rocket man will succeed.
Tony has an innate ability to drive and his his carefully chosen crew is just the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to see him quiet the naysayers this season. Go Tony Go!
I think tony will prove to everyone that he still has the passion to be one of the top drivers in nascar and is happy to be back in a chevy , and wants to prove everyone wrong good luck in 2009 go get em smoke
If you are familiar with the 70s funk “I’ll Take You There” – by Mavis Staple … better believe that’s our Tony

I hope he (and Ryan) do well, but I think it may be more of an “uphill” climb than the article suggests. For example, the equipment will be outsourced. Yeah, it’s Hendrick…but I just don’t believe they’ll hand out the “best” engines. They’re all dyno’ed, there WILL be variations in horsepower and I just can’t believe Smoke will get the “best” ones. And, I can’t remember when I’ve seen a team win with engines built outside the organization.(Yates doesn’t count ;) )
I’ll still be on his side….GO SMOKE!!!!(and Ryan)
Smoke is the man, and he’s proven it over and over again since he first started racing as a young boy. Yes, the new roll as co-owner of the team and driver will have some distraction, but Tony is smart, and he studied Joe Gibbs and JD Gibbs and watched them carefully select the folks to help run the JGR organization, which they did and still do – like a well-oiled machine. He’ll have Darian Grubb as his crew chief, and those who know NASCAR know that I don’t need to say more, except, it’s Darian Grubb. In addition, yes, he will place the car up front at the beginning of the season due to champion’s provisionals, and he knows Rocketman is one of the better Sprint Cup qualifiers out there. As Smoke led so many laps at the Daytona 500 last year, just to have Rocketman pass him on the last lap — well, it was almost a prelude of things to come; as if Newman was saying, “hey, fellow Hoosier, PICK ME….PICK ME…..we’ll be awesome teammates,” and BOTH will be contenders this year. Mark my words.
the one thing i dont worry about is the 2009 season. Smoke is back in a Chevy and owns his own team and has tweo titles with Chevy. Smoke has been smart in every decision he has made so far his car will automatically be in the show and who else than Newman would you want to qualify on time there will be no problem putting that car in the race.I can see another one two finish at daytona with Stewart and Newman but this time Smoke holds the trophy and may be that will cure any doubts why Stewart has made the best decsion of his career.
Correction: 2 Titles, 1 with Chevy, 1 with Pontiac.
folks, on January 13, 2009, I predicted that Smoke and Rocketman would each be in the Chase. I did not lie now, did I??? What an amazing feat for SHR – I can’t wait to see what 2010 holds! LOVE YOU GUYS – GO SMOKE!
Comment #8 above in case you want proof.
